Ask for website quotes and you will get wildly different numbers. Usually the reason is not an “expensive” or a “cheap” company, but that each quote describes a different piece of work. Here is what actually determines the price of a website and how to compare quotes properly.
Number of pages and content structure
A five-page brochure site and a site with hundreds of products, news items or events are not the same job. What drives the price is less the number of pages than the number of page types: home page, service page, news list, news detail. Each template is designed and built separately.
Template or custom design?
A template looks cheaper at first. But it often loads slowly, never quite fits your brand and risks breaking with every plugin update. Custom design and development take more work up front, but because the site contains only what you need, it is faster, more secure and lasts longer.
Admin panel
If you will update the content yourself, the site needs an admin panel. A simple announcements section and a panel with products, categories, users and permissions are very different amounts of work. Make sure the quote spells out what the panel includes.
Languages and SEO
A multilingual site needs its own URL structure per language, translation management and hreflang tags. Technical SEO (page titles, sitemap, structured data, speed optimisation) also shows up in the price when it is done from the start, but adding it later is always more expensive.
Integrations and special features
These are usually the items that change the price the most:
- Online payments and payment gateway integration
- Appointment, booking or membership systems
- WhatsApp, email or SMS notifications
- Accounting, shipping or marketplace integrations
- User accounts and personal dashboards
Costs after launch
Domain, hosting, SSL and maintenance are recurring yearly costs. Some low quotes leave them out entirely and make up for it with monthly fees later. Ask about the first year and the following years together to see the full cost.
How to compare quotes
Do not look at the total alone. Ask every company the same questions: How many pages and which features are included? Is there an admin panel? Who keeps the source code and the domain? What support do you get after launch? A quote that cannot answer these clearly may look cheap but cost more later.
The right price is the one that covers exactly what you need, nothing missing and nothing extra. Tell us what you have in mind and we will prepare a transparent, itemised quote that explains what everything is for.
